What is the reason for move?
Global Document Solutions has acquired a state-of-the art production facility that will accommodate our continuing growth, allow us to better serve your needs, and set us apart from the competition. Migrating a large portion of our East Coast production to this new facility will allow us to make both resource and capital investments in the future, and continue to provide the exceptional service you have become accustomed to receiving from GDS. Our new facilities are an investment in you!
Where is the new location?
The production facility is located at 800 Central Boulevard in Carlstadt, NJ, just minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel. In conjunction with this move, we will be relocating our corporate headquarters to a new Manhattan location at 205 Hudson Street. A portion of production will remain in Manhattan as well. We will also be upgrading our Metrotech, Brooklyn facility. Along with our GDS West facility in Hayward, California, we now have combined manufacturing capacity of over 250,000 square feet.
When will the moves take place and how will they affect your service?
The move will occur in phases through December 2006 and January 2007. During the move, we will be running duplicate operations in multiple locations to ensure no gap in service. Throughout the transition we will be conducting business as usual and you should expect no impact to your work.
What are some of the highlights of the new facility?
The 130,000 square foot plant provides:
- Increased capacity of 50%
- Digital printing, commercial printing, and fulfillment located on one floor
- Automated warehouse adjoining production
- State-of-the-art, fully secure, data center
- On-site UPS and diesel co-generation
- Easy access (3 miles) to the USPS Kearny processing center
Why is corporate headquarters separate from your primary production facility and how will this affect communication?
We plan to centralize administrative functions in New York, and standardize the production platforms in New York, New Jersey and California. This is the most efficient way to expand our service offerings. We are making the appropriate investments in infrastructure to facilitate effective communication.
Will phone numbers change?
Phone numbers will remain the same.
Is the new facility reachable by public transportation?
Yes, a New Jersey Transit bus stops a few hundred feet from the facility.
Will some production remain in New York City?
Yes, though core production will be in New Jersey and California, we will have some production capability in Manhattan, as well as at our Brooklyn Metrotech facility.
How will proofs be transported between New York City and the New Jersey facility?
Use of a messenger service is recommended.
Where and when does client send materials?
Each of our clients will be contacted individually to determine where and when materials are transferred to another location.
Will GDS remain a union shop?
Yes.
What is the disaster recovery plan?
With respect to data transmission, existing disaster recovery plans will remain in effect for our Brooklyn Metrotech and Hayward, California facilities. Our new facility offers improved redundancy and safety features for housing our client work. Specific disaster recovery plans for Carlstadt are still in the planning stages.
Will GDS add additional shifts?
Initially we will continue to operate as we have in Manhattan. We will add additional shifts and days as necessary.
What is the transition plan for data transmission via Internet?
GDS has installed a bridge between our current data center and our New Jersey location. As part of our move process we are installing a new enterprise wide high speed network between our Manhattan, Carlstadt, NJ, Brooklyn, NY and Hayward CA operating centers.
What is the transition plan for data transmission via dedicated lines?
Dedicated circuits will be transitioned from our 350 Hudson Street data center to our Carlstadt New Jersey data center in coordination with the client and the provider. Our bridge will support any lag in circuit move time.
How will the move impact GDS Web applications?
GDS web applications are hosted offsite and will not be impacted by the move.
